Building Site

to the east from the road
Bill & Tim have been working on the ground where the new building will sit behind our house, to the north and east.  Tried to take these pictures so you can see where it will be from our house.

It's going to be a 60' x 120' EPS building built by Quail Construction out of Spencer, Iowa.  Quail Construction is a family owned business and they've been in business since 1945.
It's thundering and we're right on the line to maybe get rain. Bill is out spraying a field and just called to have me look at radar.  As I was telling him what I saw, he saw straight up and down lightening so that made up his mind to stop.  He'll be home for lunch shortly.

Hot Holiday Job - digging out stumps

Bill's July 4th project was digging out the stumps from our old grove.  The air conditioning isn't working on the backhoe so he just kept the door open.  He got them all dug out and dug a big hole back by our creek to put them in to burn them.  Now he'll load them up, take them back to burn and fill in the holes and smooth out the dirt.  Eventually we'll have nice grass here where we've had the tall grass.

It was right at 100 here yesterday so we didn't go watch fireworks.   We had seen them in Council Bluffs, IA on Sat.

Many Trees are Planted

This first picture is one of the new red buds. This one is in the front yard and there is one in the back yard. The trees in the pickup are the austrees. The third picture is of one of the new crabapples. We put one in the front yard and one in the back. All six rows are planted thanks to being able to borrow the truck & trailer and post hole auger from a local farmer and Tim's help. Bill helped Tim plant 20 trees today. They don't think they want to plant any more trees for a long time.

We do hate it that we can see town now, but we're glad to get all of these trees going so we'll have some wind protection sooner rather than later.

We have a house!

Bill had a fire call at 5:50 am - propane tank on fire at a hog confinement building. He and another guy were the ones that turned the valves off on the burning tank. :(

Work started on the house at 7:30. Much nicer, warmer day for them to work today. Bill and I just walked through it and I took pictures of course! I'll post them small but you can click on them to see them full screen. Today they've put up the garage walls and are going to be working on interior walls. I'm going to West Bend this afternoon to look at flooring. Greg says some of it is taking longer to get in than usual so we need to get decisions made on that.
This is the great room (bigger window) facing west/front - faces the road.
This is the office with a west/front facing bigger window and smaller south window.

This is the master bedroom with a large east window (back of the house) and a north window.
This is the door to the screened porch and large window - both in the eating area to the right of the kitchen and on the east side/back of the house. The smaller window on the left will be over the kitchen sink (looks out to the back yard & fields).
Bill is in the screened porch. The doorway looks big. They are all 36". This one will be mostly glass to let more light in and see out from the eating area and Great Room.

We have walls!

What a difference a day can make! The framer/roofer/concrete guy, Mark, brought his trailer with tools first thing this morning. Bill started hauling snow out of the way, the builder came and the 2 trucks with the walls got here at 11:30. The trucks were unloaded and gone by 12:15! By about 5:15 they had all of the outer walls in place! They hope to have it under roof by Sun. It sure was a cold day to work. Greg, the main man, is the one up in the corner hammering. He doesn't like having his picture taken.
