We got home from our 5th anniversary weekend trip through the Loess Hills yesterday. We drove all the way on a scenic byway that runs from the northwest corner of Iowa down to the southwest corner. The scenery was beautiful!!! More pictures of our trip to come!
This is called the Freedom Rock and is a mile off of I-80 west of Des Moines. I'd always wanted to see it since reading the story about it in the magazine Our Iowa so we planned our trip to include this stop. One guy has been painting this rock with patriotic scenes every year since 1999. Click HERE to read all about it and see what it has looked like each year! It's very impressive.
I hope everyone enjoys their July 4th holiday! It's going to be a hot one just about everywhere. We're at 90 at 7 pm and it's supposed to be 100 the next two days.
